Almonry Barn

Almonry Barn is unlike any other wedding barn as not only does it still retain plenty of historical soul and a picturesque setting, but it also offers a super stylish twist, rustic elegance and striking architectural design throughout - perfect for the style conscious couple. We are a small family business so you won't find any corporate jargon here. If you're looking for an immaculate stunning country barn, with a setting like no other then Almonry Barn is for you.

Almonry Barn is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (the same historical league as Stonehenge) and has been standing for over 800 years. The barn is believed to be the oldest wedding barn in England, and was once part of a beautiful abbey - the ruins of which still stand opposite - and was used by the monks to give 'alms' to passing travellers and pilgrims. The Barn is situated in the medieval village of Muchelney (meaning Great Island) and is surrounded by the Somerset levels. At times of exceptional heavy winter rain fall Muchelney almost reverts back to being how it once was - the field opposite is transformed into a stunning lake with a vast selection of bird life setting upon it.

Sympathetic updates to the interior of the barn provide a spacious main reception room for the wedding breakfast, as well as a dance-floor, & a quirky dedicated bar area in the adjoining stable block. Double-doors open onto a pretty walled terrace with views over the Somerset levels, orchard & nearby stream – A stunning backdrop for your celebrations come rain or shine.

Upstairs in the barn is a completely separate room (the Hayloft) that’s available for your civil ceremony or civil partnership. In addition, only 10 metres away is a Grade I listed medieval church.
